Who would have thought that Brock Lesnar, 51 weeks off from fighting in the UFC, would submit one of the most dangerous heavyweights in mixed martial arts? Last Saturday, July 3, Shane Carwin (12-1) was defeated by heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar (5-1) by submission through arm triangle choke. Everybody who watched the fight was shocked at the result which ended in 2:19 of the second round. Nobody suspected that Lesnar was going to submit Carwin seeing as both of them have great knock out power and speculated that they would only keep the fight standing up.
At first, many people doubted the return of Brock Lesnar to defend his heavyweight championship belt. Majority of the people gave an edge to Shane Carwin because of his experience and stronger punches seeing as the man had won all 12 of his fights by knockout, none of them going longer than three minutes and 49 seconds. Many thought that Lesnar might have lost his mixed martial arts skill in the ring since he contracted diverticulitis last year, forcing to postpone previous matches and even training. For 13 days he did not eat solid food and he lost 40-50 pounds of weight.
During the first round of their fight, it was nearly over for the heavyweight champion as Carwin hit Lesnar with a left hook that sent the 265-pound giant staggering towards the cage. The champion was clearly in trouble as Carwin kept hammering him with punches and elbows while Lesnar just tried to keep moving to prove to the referee that he was still defending himself intelligently. Josh Rosenthal showed good judgment during the fight and was proven correct when Lesnar survived to choke out Carwin later on.
Mixed martial arts sure bring plenty of surprises even for a fighter that has not been in the ring for 51 weeks due to illness. And who would have thought that Shane Carwin, the meanest puncher in the UFC with no losses, would be submitted by such a fighter?
There are several things to consider when coming up with stunning cheers and chants for the whole cheerleading team. Aside from the awesome stunts and dance moves, cheers have been the key factor that draws the attention of the crowd. However, an effective cheerleading takes in the form of well arranged cheers, chants, and movements. That is why, before performing, make sure that the team was able to come up with something that is unique and original.
Cheerleading is a team sport where every member must contribute for its overall success. Like any other sports, team work is a must. Every member must encourage their companions in order to unify the whole squad. By doing such, cheerleading can take you to places and give you a lot of fun. Aside from the loud cheers, chants, and movements, costumes and props such as the pompoms are very necessary. These things can make your team stand out from the rest. Many forms of cheerleading have also evolved such as the cheer dance where cheers and chants contribute less to the whole presentation.
Cheerleading chants can also vary depending on the kind of game it is used for. A cheer for a basketball game can be different from a cheer for a football game. Each of them takes on different chant characteristics. Some forms can be funny and some can be quite boasting while others take on something quick and simple. Although your team’s cheers and chants can be based on your creativity, always remember that it must be appropriate for what you are cheering for.
Soccer, which is commonly known as football, is a team sport played game. There are two teams involved each consists of eleven players aiming for a goal found on both ends of the rectangular court. The objective of this game is to score by driving the ball on the opponent’s goal. Only goal keepers are allowed to use their hands or arms to propel the ball or catch it before it hits the goal. When the rest of the players touch the ball with their hands, there will be a penalty kick. In driving the ball, players are only allowed to use their torso or head until they pass it with a kick. Since then, soccer has become an all time favorite sport by many people across the globe.
One of the famous soccer players in the world is David Beckham. Born on May 2, 1975, this 34 year old 6 ft tall player is now playing with the Los Angeles Galaxy as a midfielder. Midfielders are supposed to keep the ball out of the other half of the field, and help the offense out by giving them someone to pass to or by pass them when the offense is on the good spot.
David Beckham has been in the National team England u-21 from 1994-1996 and in England since 1996.When he signed the contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy they gave him the highest player salary in MLS history. He played for the Los Angeles Galaxy for 3 years now and has been receiving an annual salary of 6.5m per year. He is also the first British footballer to play in 100 Champion Leagues matches.
During the United FA world cup finals, Beckham was successful in taking the position of a centre-field where he made his team win against the Newcastle United. With the crucial assists and goals, Beckham was named as the European Footballer of the year and received the FIFA World Player of the year award.
People shout…Crowds roar…
And your favorite cheerleading squad flips and jumps and flexes in their colorful outfits as they move their bodies to their beautiful routine.
Sure sounds like one of those “Bring It On” movies, right? It’s the perfect climax for the typical “competition-gets-on-the-nerves” plot.
While the present squads are composed mostly of girls and a very few male cheerleaders are depicted in movies (most of which are implied as homosexuals); the first cheering squads back in the 1890s were originally composed of all males. The original cheerleading fraternity was organized in 1903, and yes, it was composed by males. It was only in 1923 that women started joining. And ever since cheering squads was formed, the activity has caught great interest. But it was the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders that had really put the spotlight on cheerleading when they performed with their stylish outfits and dance routines. Since then, the world of cheerleading has evolved to what we now appreciate it to be.
Cheerleading has been popularized by the movies and songs, and usually they depict cheerleaders as the “top of the social food chain” (as stated by cheerleader Christina in the movie Bring It On: Fight to the Finish). While movies tend to exaggerate things up a bit, that part has truth to it. Cheerleaders somehow belong to the top leaders for their schools. Now this may be accounted to their representation and promotion of school spirit as they do their cheering routines, whether in a game or for a competition. Some political figures and popular celebrities are former cheerleaders, and that includes ex-President George W. Bush, Dwight Eisenhower, Halle Berry, Madonna, and many others.
Cheerleading is not just a simple regular sport. It requires dexterity, flexibility, and sharpness. In addition, it requires loads of stamina and perseverance to achieve cheerleading perfection. So if you want to be one, you know that you’ll need more than just pompoms to really bring it on!

If you think speedboats are boring and jet skis are for wimps, then Bancarera’s might just be your new speed trip adventure. Bancarera (English term boat racing) is an old and traditional sport competition of fisherfolks from the Philippines. In coastal cities and municipalities, Bancarera is a common event and has become part of most programs during foundation anniversaries, Earth day, and ocean week. Race organizers invite racers from different coastal communities all over the country to participate in the spectacle. The event also draws in local, national and even foreign spectators.
There are two type of boat racing – one that uses paddies and another, using engines. The paddies race features the application of kasig or bamboo paddles on the both side of the boat to move it across the water. This type of boat racing is actually being practiced by marginalized fisherfolks not only as a form of sport but also as a daily source of income. Motor boats are the modified forms of fishing boats that use highly powerful engines to tread the seas. With this type of water vehicle, people are more freely able to personalize boat designs and be faster in bancarera’s. Elite motor boat racers use fiber glass for their boat’s body, a piece of stick to use for pushing, pulling and steering, and a long bamboo shoot for balance. During the race, all participants are required to use engines with uniformed running power.
When the race starts, the rider positions himself on the backside of the boat to balance the weight and let the front portion of boat elevate from sea level to set up the speeding position. Once the signal is given, participants are encouraged to speed up to the extent of their engine’s capacity. The race tests the skills and ability of competitors in maneuvering their boat while rapidly treading waters and the reward is often money and a new engine.
A few decades back, you’d find it impossible for women to enter into men’s sports such as basketball. Now, you can even see them on the ring, wearing their boxing gloves, getting ready to fight.
A boxing match between two women is coined as foxy boxing. I really wonder why it is named as such. Maybe it’s because women are as a wild and as ferocious as foxes when they are so ready to fight. Or maybe because foxes have that certain poise and grace when they fight that can be seen in women when they are in the boxing ring.
Whatever the real reason for its name is, there is one thing that is certain: women are now proving their worth in this sports reserved only for the “tough guys”. Two of them are already known worldwide as legends. If you’re a real boxing fanatic, then you would know Christy Martin and Laila Ali.
Laila Ali may be a familiar figure for most of us because she is the daughter of the boxing legend Muhammad Ali. She’s been the new torchbearer for the women’s category now, after having defeated the hardy Christy Martin in the fourth round.
If you aren’t familiar with Christy Martin, she is the female boxer who fought as an undercard in many of Tyson’s matches. She has frequently stolen the spotlight, and not a few sportswriters were more interested in her than the great Mike Tyson. Back then, she was not fighting against women, she fought against hardy male boxers, and had won some matches too.
It took a long while for the sports to get the acceptance of the world. A few countries such as Sweden and UK had boxing matches in as early as the 1980’s, but the first World Championships was not held until 2001. However, it is gaining recognition, and last year, in the 2008 Olympics, foxy boxing was an exhibition sports. This coming 2012, it will be added as an official sport in the Olympics, and a lot of fans are so eager to find out who’s going to bring home the medal.
Last September 28, 2009, I caught a glimpse of the opening of F1 Singapore Grand Prix, which was held in Singapore, on TV and I found it amazing. As was publicized, it was Singapore’s First Grand Prix event and the first night race in F1 history. It was cool to see drivers racing against each other in the familiar setting of the race track, but with a new night atmosphere. For the first time, the formula one racets sped with the illumination generated by a specially recreated light just for F1 2009. The total numbers of lighting projectors were almost 1,500 and they were four times brighter than the other average sports stadium lights. These lights enabled F1 racers to see clearly and drive accurately through the tracks at top acceleration. Undoubtedly, this historic event is just one of the many things to look forward to for Formula One Racing. The Singapore night race was also recreated in the form of a game. And for the first time ever, all gamers will be able to experience the excitement of being part of the F1 race.
The adrenalin rush you get while watching fast cars beat each other is just beyond compare. What more would racing against a dim backdrop be? Get to feel the exact same thrill of the F1 night race by playing your Nintendo Wii or PlayStation Portable. Wouldn’t it be great to experience real F1 action right in your own room? The F1 2009 games for consoles will surely be released later this year. Several pictures that were captured during the actual race have been encoded by the game masters. A game feature will showcase some footage taken from the Singapore F1 2009 Street Circuit. If youw ant to know more about it, you can search the internet for the latest Wii games.
