Cable skiing is a water sport where the player is pulled with an electronically driven cable. In comparison to traditional water skiing wherein the player is pulled behind a motor boat, cable skiing is a modernized replication of the activity that does not necessitate the use of any sea-based vehicle. The machinery in cable skiing consists of 2 parallel cables running beside one another. This allows a loop-pulling motion to ensue on the cables which, in connection, produces the movement. The cable is commonly suspended 15-20 feet (5-7 metres) on top of the water. This makes for a more diverse feel and experience in contrast to riding behind a boat, Cable skiing is now more popularly known as wakeboarding.

In wakeboarding, a higher angle of pull makes greater air stunts and sharper turns possible. Normally, in this kind of sport, players will not only use cables. There are also ramps and sliders that they can bring into playing. Another way for wakeboarders to get air on the cable is to “load the line.” Loading the line pertains to giving tension on the rope and using the water as a pounce to permit one’s self to fly on the air.

Cable skiing is popular in Europe and gradually attaining momentum in the United States. In Germany alone there are over 50 active cables catering to numerous wakeboarding fanatics. There are four cables in Poland – Szczecinek (1100m), Ostróda (800m), Lublin (760m) and Augustów (740m). In the United States there are less than 15. However, the world capital of wakeboarding is in Orlando, Florida where the world renowned cable park Orlando Watersports Complex is located.
