Skateboarding is one of the most popular and sought after games in the history of extreme sports. Skateboarding was probably born in the late 1940s or early 1950s when surfers in California wanted to surf when the waves were flat.
These first skateboarders started with boards(wooden box) with roller skate wheels attached to the bottom. The boxes turned into planks, and eventually companies were producing decks of pressed layers of wood. During this time, skateboarding was seen as something to do for fun besides surfing. The current generation of skateboards is dominated by street skating, which literally means skating across the street.
Enough on the inputs of the history of skateboarding and lets proceed to what we call the Goofy vs. Regular, it is a game wherein a particular skateboarding stance represented by two teams compete. There are only two stances, one is Goofy – the left foot is placed nearest the nose of the board and the other one is the regular which is the Goofy’s opposite. The mechanics of the game is very simple, each team must have a team captain. Both teams are going to compete by trying to outdo each other’s tricks and pulling each other’s gun to remain in the game. For example, the player of the other team does a kickflip and he landed it smoothly, the other player from the other team must do the same and nail it. Otherwise, the judges places an “S” on their team and so on. The team who has bailed most, slammed or touch the floor and formed the word S-K-A-T-E without a doubt forfeits that round. A toss coin will follow next to know who will “rip” first on the next round (who starts the game).
Everyone can benefit from being active and playing sports. It keeps you fit, helps you maintain a good shape, and strengthens the breathing muscles in your chest. This is especially important for people with asthma because it can help their lungs work better. People with asthma normally avoid cold places and things that could trigger an attack such as certain allergens. But those who have asthma should not deprive themselves the fun and benefits they can get from sports. Asthmatics are allowed to enjoy sports as long as it will not aggravate their condition. Strenuous activities such as long distance running should be avoided where sustained effort is needed over a considerable period. This kind of sport tends to stress asthmatics and may cause their symptoms to exacerbate.. Other sports such as scuba diving, skydiving and bungee jumping are not also recommended to a person with asthma. While basketball, football, cricket, gymnastics, netball, volleyball and ballet are allowed since it only requires short, quick bursts of energy. At the same time, these sports can help a person acquire skills of sharp coordination, agility, quick thinking and reflex reactions that can be a big advantage to a person afflicted with asthma.
Most people love basketball and anyone who has ever played the sport can attest to how fun it can be. For whatever purpose one has, whether competing against a team or just for the sake of fun, the game brings a ton of benefits to the people playing it. For someone with asthma, playing basketball can improve one’s sprint speed through running, jumping, and defensive endurance. It can also help a person to develop a good stamina by performing fast breaks and lay-ups. Basketball strengthens the arm and leg muscles through vigorous passing. Most importantly, it increases the strength of the respiratory muscles of the asthmatic individual. Precautions should be taken before an asthmatic engages in sports like this. They should have full compliance with their medication regimen before playing to prevent flare ups and emergency cases. It is necessary to carry rescue medication at all times, even during workouts, in case of an asthma attack. Make sure your coach and teammates know about your condition and they should understand when you need to stop working out. In any occasion that an asthma attack would occur, the people around you should know the steps in making you feel better.. With proper precautions, a person with asthma can enjoy and benefit from a sport such as basketball.

Karate and Taekwondo are both very popular sports, not only here in the Philippines but also all over Asia. Karate and Taekwondo are admired for their focus on the mind and body, and their emphasis self discipline, which reflects to the quality and attitude of a person as a whole.Having dwelled in their similarities, let us now briefly discuss each sport’s contrast and categorized them accordingly.
First up, we have Karate. Also known as Karate do, it is a martial art developed from fighting methods found in the Ryukyu Islands, in combination with Chinese kempo and classical Japanese martial arts. According to legend, the evolution of karate began over two thousand years ago, in the 5th century BC, when Bodhidharma (an Indian Buddhist monk) arrived in Shaolin-si (a small forest temple). From there Karate appeared in Okinawa, a Japanese Island. The meaning of the word karate is “empty hands.” It refers to the reality that Karate originated as a method of self-defense which relied on the successful use of the defenseless body. Karate is primarily a striking art, with punching, kicking, knee/elbow strikes, and open-handed techniques.
Next, we have Taekwondo (pronounced as Taekwon-Do, Tae Kwon-Do, Tae Kwon Do). It is a form of a Korean martial art and a combat sport. It started in Korea, just about 2000 years ago, during the period of 37 BC – 668 AD; born out of the three warring Kingdoms of Goguryeo, Silla and Baekje. Over the years, it has evolved and become methodical. “Tae” in Teakwondo means to destroy with the feet; “kwon” means to strike or smash with the hand; and “do” means “path” or “way”. Taekwondo then is translated as “the way of the foot and fist”. The main feature of Taekwondo is effective kicking.
Well, there you have it. Having gained familiarization with both forms of martial art, it’s up to you to decide which one between Karate and Taekwondo you would take on your sport of choice.
